LIMITLESS - A BUDDHIST PERSPECTIVE |

"There is no universe without an observer, no physical world without our thoughts about it; we cannot observe without participating.' So says V.V Hunt in her book 'The infinite mind'.
I took her book with me to a solitary retreat of two weeks in the Rainforest, because this was the only book in the house where I was staying and nobody had looked at it. It was unread and I felt it was for me. I was right. I had an amazing time discovering her very Buddhist approach to life, and as a result, I didn't see as much Rainforest as I wanted too. However, I did not regret it. It was fascinating to see a scientific mind drawing the same conclusions about life as myself, having been a Buddhist for 37 years. Here are the main concepts that she develops in the book. I also added some of my own Buddhist perception of it. |

All quantum scientists say that we cannot observe the world without participating in it. Matter and mind blend together and never produce identical answers. The material world would stretch towards infinity and would look not like a mass or a mechanic, but more like ' a process, an event and a relationship'. It looks more like a thought system than a machine.' A thought system'. How interesting. It logically follows that we can and do influence it with our thought processes. We exchange thoughts with the universe. Our consciousness when expanded, has access to primary reality of a higher consciousness. Einstein says ' that electrical patterns are the very basis of substance itself. There is no firm boundaries between things, and they are free to evolve.' Rupert Sheldrake talks about morphogenic fields. They are fields connected to behaviour and thoughts rather than substances; When the first monkey peeled his banana in the midst of the African forest, days or weeks later, other monkeys were peeling their banana in Japan, although it's an island. Consciousness is an active element in the building of reality. The ultimate reality of the universe is 'consciousness', and this can be contacted through deep intuition. It's a place beyond time, space and mass, where only vibrations exist. Consciousness inserts information into its environment as well as extracting information from it. It would seem that we think and operate as we believe. All interactions between the cosmos and human beings take place first in the human brain. Einstein demonstrated that the greatest potential power lies in the smallest amount of matter. And he said that it is possible that the mind springs from the electron's energy of the body's atoms. This energy permeates all tissues and does not need the nervous system. It uses the brain to store memories and experiences. The mind might also absorb free-electrons from the universe. So the mind is limitless. Man and cosmos are interfaced. For some people with a more developed mind, their perceptions occur at a cosmic field level. Eastern philosophies offer ideas and exercises to clarify and sharpen the mind. The mind is the most powerful force in the world, more powerful than the split of atoms because it's beyond physical force. Some people think that minds concentrated together could stop floods, hurricanes and even earthquakes. Some have organised groups to create weather changes. |
It's a pattern of vibration that starts a storm and it's another that stops it. Nothing mechanical, only vibrations. Some thoughts colour the environment in which they occur. They can be perceived like a knife, a trap or a gentle stroke. They create a morphogenic field. They occupy space with weight and size. They can be decoded correctly or not. The strong and structured emotions have a potent effect on the electro-magnetic fields of the earth. Plants and animals react too because they communicate through vibrational fields mainly. When we chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo, the mind is tapping the higher source in the universe, the Buddha state of the universe, and uses the new information received to transform old information into new ways. This is the highest level of thought. This can take place when people, facing their Gohonzon and retreat in themselves, quiet their brain to free the mind, and chant with a seeking spirit. 'If we want to be fully human we must cultivate our mystical nature.' says V.V Hunt. She also mentions that: 'Shakyamuni, St Francis, Gandhi (and Nichiren) had catastrophic and sharp conversions with drastic rearrangement of ego, values and group affiliations, so that we can relate more easily with them.' Wrong behaviour is a blockage due to reflexes, education and habits, and not in agreement with our true selves or what we can truly accept. Some other wrong behaviour come from past lives and continue in the present life, unless we decide to change. Contacting our own buddhahood pust us in the state that illuminate our unfinished business from other lifetimes, the source of all our deep problems and the reason for this particular reincarnation. Happiness and bliss is not be our goal in life but we aim to evolve to the highest level, spiritually, emotionally, intellectually and physically while unfolding our true mystical nature for the advancement of our society and our institutions. To recognise that we are larger, stronger, higher and greater than we have experienced of ourselves so far, allows our life to turn around immediately and experience our buddhahood in daily life, with joy and love. This nourishes all people and our planet as well. Victor Hugo said: ' There is a prospect greater than the sea, and it is the sky; there is a prospect greater than the sky, and it is the human soul.' The deep level of the soul always wants to be free to manifest it's divine nature. When we validate our buddha nature, we elevate others simply by our presence. Our vibrations express more than what we can say or do. We need to take hold of our own power and to know that we have the skill and inner ability to evolve more rapidly and without outside help. When we practise the 'Observation of the heart', we can discover the patterns of our life. The beliefs and decisions which are still with us today can come from past lives. |
Why don't we remember past lives ' Because this life is our primary concern. Some of our beliefs systems are firmly ingrained culturally and can take the power of absolute law. They can create disturbance and can lead to illness. When a person deeply and quietly prays, his electromagnetic field often reaches the highest vibrations with all his energy focused in the same direction. This is a state of immense power. It's a state which is beyond the Law of Attraction which is so much in favour nowadays. Activating our buddhahood, acknowledging the divine nature within us, we experience the divine vibrations at the same time as our mortal nature, and this is the goal of our evolution, in order to ' be divine and human at the same time ' says V.V Hunt. Incorporating this ascendance allows acts of greatness. Einstein, Gandhi, Shakespeare, Newton, Tolstoï etc. ...all the giants of our civilisation used their mystical consciousness to tap into universal information and then share it for the benefit of everyone. If we think their abilities were divine, we must begin to think ours is too, if we only choose to honour our buddha nature, and manifest our divine energy in our own lives, our institutions and our relationships. We should ask ourselves if we really want this great power of divine vibrations to be at our command. Often we don't want to change our priorities, our beliefs about ourselves and our ideas about Buddhahood, because our under-developed ideas are familiar and comfortable and make no demand on our behaviour. In short, we don't really want to be a buddha and a human being at the same time, and we prefer to deny our spiritual power as a primary defence. Chanting NMRK makes things easier because it overrides our ego, which stops us to communicate with the divine. It allows us to attune to the same wavelength of higher energy with the cosmos. In order to do that, we must quiet ourselves from the fury of life of doing, to the silence of being and feeling, to help us to develop our higher nature , so we can heal and learn more. We can acknowledge our Buddha nature in ourselves and in others, and connect regularly with the universal frequency of Buddhahood. And for this, we will give profound thanks. When our mind mastery is activated we have victory over pain and death. Our energy field grows in vibrational complexity, maintaining it's dynamic position, and our Buddha nature will dominate our consciousness and our life. We experience divine vibrations in ourselves and recognise them as part of our nature and not outside us. We know that we are a manifestation of the glory of divine life. V.V Hunt says : ' A God who is accessible must be part of a new role model.' She also said that ' the primary concern of the religious institutions today should be to provide opportunities for people to get in touch with their divine nature'. This is what developing our Buddhahood is all about. M. de Mahé |
